A Very Kind Thought

Regular readers may remember that some time ago I posted a personal ad here on the blog for a cuckoldress located across the country. This week she sent me the following words intended to be posted here on the blog:

Testimonial

I just want the readers to know how I feel about this wonderful classy Mistress. I
am an amature Mistress, My husband is My slave cuckold and I reached out to Mistress
Milliscent for some advise. I found her to be so very generous with her advice and
her time. She posted an ad for me, she gave me great ideas and stories based on her
own experiences. Mistress Milliscent is a class act, she is intelligent, warm,
alluring, and lovely. Those of you who follow her know this but anyone new to this
site should find themselves grateful to have discovered Mistress Milliscent. I have
also read some of her books, excellent reading, great stories and creative ideas for
D/s or cuckolding.

Grateful to have discovered Mistress Milliscent,
Mistress in Ohio

Thank you MiH!

Participation, Making It All Worthwhile

I just noticed that I've now had 2120 comments published on this blog since I moved it from Blogger.

That is great! I love reading all of your comments and I am forever pleased that people find my scribbles worth their time to read.

Shared Fetish Is The Key

I occasionally wonder if my blog doesn't in some ways portray me incorrectly.

Specifically I wonder if, since the vast majority of my writings are Femdom/malesub and my commenters are generally of the same bent, my readers begin to think that Femdom/malesub play is the only kind of play I enjoy, or somehow my preferred gender arrangement.

That certainly is not the case. I enjoy playing with men and women, gender is unimportant to me. I enjoy playing with adults of all ages, beyond my own requirements of adulthood and high maturity, age is unimportant to me. I enjoy playing with people regardless of their sexual orientation, gay, straight, or bi, how someone identifies himself or herself sexually is unimportant to me. I enjoy playing with more than one person at a time, committed couples where one or both are submissive are always a delightful treat.

What is important to me is that my submissive of the moment and I have a shared interest in bdsm, and that the submissive whom I am with desires to explore his or her submission just as strongly as I desire to explore my dominance. That is what makes for a truly wonderful scene, not gender, not age, not size, not orientation. A shared passion for bdsm, that is the key.

My previous post was an ode to a femsub. I would hate for the millions of truly delightful female submissives out there to think that this blog was for guysubs only.

Your Leather Queen, Having Fun With Twitter

I've been using Twitter for a few days now, and am slowly figuring out how to have fun with it.

You can find my little posts in a Twitter box on the right hand side of this page, about 20% of the way down. You can't miss it; it's black with awful green text links.

Your Dominatrix, Remodeling This Blog

I guess that I'm turning into a social butterfly with all of this social networking.

I am aware that a great many blogs have 'sharing' buttons so that posts can be sent by readers to social network sites like Facebook, Twitter, Dig, &c. I've not placed those buttons on this blog before, but added them yesterday in an attempt to continue providing value and desired tools to my readers. Hopefully some of you will find the new sharing features valuable.

I've used the 'Add To All' button that allows sending of posts to a great many online communities. Those who are interested can find these buttons for each post by clicking either the 'permalink' or 'comments' link below the post. The buttons themselves are located at the bottom of the new page that opens, under the comment box.

Change: In Femdom, Blogging, and Life

A blog that I have enjoyed for a very long time contained a notice today that it will be changing. Posts will become less frequent.

While I dislike the idea of having fewer posts to read, I think that blogs need to change if they are to remain interesting and relevant to both their readers and their writers. We each change from day to day, from year to year. As those of us who write blogs change, so should our blogs change, this is, in the long run, a good thing.

My own blog changes a great deal as time passes. Sometimes I post more, sometimes less. Sometimes I write fiction, sometimes I do not. Often I write of bdsm, often I do not.

I hope that those of you who read my blog will stay with me through the changes, knowing that eventually it always returns to whatever you most enjoy. Actually, I hope that you enjoy it all, but I know that is not possible, and surely we all have our own favorite topics.

My FemDom Blog

I noticed a critique about the current direction of my blog on another that I enjoy, and that made me think about my blogging just a little bit.

I suppose that while the changes that flow through my blog as the months pass are perfectly clear to me, they aren't clear to everyone else. Perhaps a bit of explanation is in order for those readers who are curious about why it changes from time to time.

First off, I guess it's right to say that my blog ebbs and flows. In the winter and spring months I am quite a bit busier with my life than I am in the summer and fall months. That results in less time for blogging and I think that my posts always grow fewer in the winter and spring and pick up in volume again in the summer and fall.

Secondly, it's certainly correct to say that my blog is driven by my whims. I may post a great deal of fiction or I may post a great deal of femdom theory. As my readers know, sometimes I might not post about femdom at all, choosing vanilla topics instead. Female domination is on my mind each and every day. Sometimes these daydreams take the form of fantasy; other times I think more deeply about exactly what I do. My posts, fiction to non-fiction reflect those thoughts as they come to me.

Lastly I think it is important to note that I myself am always growing, always changing, and that is especially true when it comes to female domination. I've spent my life pursuing femdom and that constant pursuit leads to changes. I am not the same dominant as I was five and ten years ago, I have changed, grown even more dominant while still keeping my love of fetish and sadism. My demands on the men in my life have grown, as has my own thinking about just how much I can morally demand. Those changes must certainly be reflected in the blog, although likely in very subtle ways.

All of this is a long-winded way of saying that I hope you always enjoy my blog, but if it changes for a while, don't fret, it always changes again. I like to think of it as alive with its own pulse, finding its own form as it is created. I never try to direct the form it will take, it simply comes to me.

Selling Text Links

I've been approached three times in the past few weeks about selling text links here on the blog. I'm seeking thoughts about doing so from all of you who read it.

Would selling links here detract from your experience as a reader?

Does anyone here have experience with selling links and know how much such things go for?

Blogging Platforms, Thoughts In Seattle

I started blogging with Blogger and I must admit, it was great. It offered two wonderful benefits. It was free, and it was easy.

My current platform is Movable Type, not free, and alas, not nearly as easy to use as Blogger.

Movable Type though gives me something that Blogger never could. Peace of mind.

With Movable Type I do the hosting. I don't have to worry about what anyone else may think about what I write or what I post. With Blogger, someone else is ultimately in control of the blog.

I was lucky. I never had a bit of trouble with Blogger, but we all know that Blogger will not hesitate to hide a kinky blog behind a warning if a handful of folks click the little 'objectionable' button. I imagine that photographs are what motivate most of those clicks for kinky blogs. I must confess though, that I don't really have a problem with that. My own website has had an adult warning page since its inception, and I think it good practice to warn folks about what they are heading towards.

If though, still a few more people click that 'objectionable' button, Blogger will remove the blog completely. That is to me, bothersome. Blogger certainly has an absolute right to decide what it will host, but those decisions should be based upon specific and public criteria. Not on how many prudes click a button. Nevertheless, while bad, this is not scary.

What is scary though is what Blogger will do to non-kinky political sites in an apparent attempt to silence discussion.

Blogger had a problem with a blog titled "Just A Girl In Short Shorts Posting About Whatever." Just a Girl is Arizona attorney Becky Chandler, and Becky is a funny lesbian who effectively mocks President Obama and those like him. She does so with a racy, sexy, but not pornographic style. People on the left didn't like it, so they clicked that little 'objectionable' button.

This led Google to first remove their ads from her blog. She asked for and received a human review of her blog, and the ads went back up as it was decided that her blog was political, not sexual.

Nevertheless, members of the left who did not believe in free expression continued to click the 'objectionable' button.

Enough clicks, and the adult warning page went up.

Again, a human review was made, and the warning came down.

More 'objectionable' clicks.

The warning went back up, and did not come down.

Still more clicks and the blog was removed from Blogger by Blogger.

Blogger caved, removed political speech from their server because that political speech offended people who disagreed with it.

Blogger is certainly within its rights to remove anything from its servers, but it is troubling that they will remove political speech just because it offends some people. Certainly any political speech will offend some people and our nation was founded upon the principal of embracing speech no matter how offensive it is.

What it all comes down to though is that Becky was not allowed to "Post About Whatever" on Blogger's servers, and all blogs run the same risk if they are hosted by an outside company for free.

I do get to "Post About Whatever" because I am my own host. For a few bucks a month anyone can set up a blog of their own on a platform where they can "Post About Whatever." Having watched this drama unfold on Becky's blog, and indeed similar dramas on kinky blogs, it seems to me that while Blogger might be a great platform to cut one's teeth upon, it is incumbent upon the serious blog author to move away from such free services so that self censorship, or worse, outside censorship do not become an issue.

Becky's own story had a happy ending; she is now posting with the Ladies Liberty Alliance at:

Proud In Seattle

Yesterday while approving about a weeks worth of comments I was struck by what we have managed to create here in this little corner of the online world. It's certainly not my creation alone, whatever credit is due must rightly be shared with those who link to this blog, those who read it, and those who comment upon its entries.

Let's be perfectly frank with ourselves for a moment. This blog could be nothing more than another dull sex blog, drowned among the millions of other adult themed blogs out there. I could write of bdsm and fetish ad nauseum, showing nothing of myself but that of a bitch with a whip. You, my readers could come here each week, become aroused, leave, neither learn nor teach.

That is not though what we have created here. I think that working together we have created something extremely unique, something that we can each be proud of.

It's an adult blog, without question. Hopefully it is arousing at least part of the time, and hopefully it opens new erotic ways of thinking and being for each of us. I will certainly continue to post about sensual topics, fiction and non-fiction, for that is the core of this blog.

It's more than just an adult blog though. Witness recent discussions in the comment sections of posts such as Boeing, Not In Seattle and much older posts such as Global Warming, In Cooling Seattle. Long, intelligent, and respectful discussions between people who hold divergent points of view on the important issues we all face.

Let's not kid ourselves; the vanilla majority believes us to collectively be nothing more than sick perverts, morons intent upon destroying an idealized and fantasized Judeo-Christian culture. We know that not to be true, but just another sex blog certainly would not show that to not be true. This blog, I believe, does.

This blog, through your interaction with it, shows us to be much more than the vanilla world would perceive us to be. For that, I think, each and every one of us should be proud.

I Am A Seattle Dominatrix, And I Write

I am a writer. I am a writer simply due to the fact that I write.

I am a published writer. I am a published writer simply due to the fact that what I write is published for the public here on the internet, and in more traditional forms.

I am a serious political writer, and a serious writer of artistic fiction. I am a serious and artistic writer simply due to the fact that I take my writing seriously, my art seriously, and present it as such.

I can not decide if I am a good writer. Only you, the people who read my writings can decide if I am a good writer. I hope so, but alas, that decision is up to each of you.

I can not write in such a way as to never offend anyone. Every topic is offensive to someone, every opinion offensive to someone. Some things might only offend one other person in this whole wide world, while other things might offend large numbers of people.

My writing is bound to offend someone, from time to time.

If my writing never offended, it would not be serious, it would not be artistic, indeed it could be neither of those things for it would be false and shallow.

If I worried about whom I might offend with any particular piece of writing, I would be left with no writing at all. I would not be a writer, for all serious and artistic writing will offend someone.

I am blessed to live in a nation that values freedom. That protects the right, granted to me by god, to express myself through the written word, no matter how many people it may offend.

I am sorry if my writing offends you, my reader, but I can not, and will not self-censor myself for you because if I were to do so, I would not be a serious writer.

As has been seen here, today and in the past, I will publish your offended comments, provided that they are sanely written. I do not shy away from those who criticize my writing. I do though notice that such criticism is often, as it was again today, posted anonymously. I might say in a coward's way. My writing may offend from time to time, but at least I have the courage to stand behind it, not hide behind the privacy features this software has to offer.

Words of police and the courts. Nonsense of course given that we do live in a free nation, a nation that protects the free expression of writers. Such words though do point to a certain personality. A personality that embraces totalitarianism. A personality that may be comfortable living within a police state where no one is allowed to offend another. An extremely dangerous personality as has been shown countless times through the march of history.

One of the prices of freedom is that one will be offended from time to time. The price of never being offended is living under tyranny. I prefer living in the United States to living under totalitarianism. I hope that my readers do as well.

This post will likely send a regular and valued reader away. I am sorry for that because I have enjoyed our exchanges in the past, and enjoyed his blogs. I can't not make the post though, I can't not write what I must write even if I know that it will offend my reader for if I did I would not be able to call myself a writer.

Whitelist Your Dominatrix

Are you having difficulty receiving email from me or anyone else? Think you just might be? Want to ensure that you always get the email you want?

This link will tell you how:

How To Whitelist A Sender

Email In Seattle

For those who write me, please remember that email is not a flawless tool. It is reliable, but not perfectly so.

I always answer my email, so if you send me something and don't hear back from me within 24 hours, please do send it again as it may have been somehow lost in transit. You may also of course call if you have my number.

I'm posting this because apparently emails between myself and traci are not getting through. Thank you traci for letting me know via the comments form, and yes indeed we are still on. Please try to email me again; I look forward to seeing you soon!

Comment Moderation, Unfortunate In Seattle

I wish that I didn’t need to moderate the comments upon this blog. A free flow of ideas is what I seek to embrace here, so I do not moderate out disagreement. I must however moderate to keep the blog from being overrun with spam.

An un-moderated blog would be a faster moving blog, and if it were not for the spam, I think a more interesting blog.

Alas however the spammers, scum who work hard at destroying enjoyment of the internet, go to work on this blog as well.

This evening I checked my comment log. While I did not need to remove any spam comments myself, the server caught 16 of them in the last 48 hours. 16 people trying to fill my blog with their garbage.

That is why I must use comment moderation on the blog, even though it unfortunately slows down the conversation, slows down the time in which your legitimate comments appear here.

The Mistress, Blogging In Her Seattle Dungeon

Over the past few weeks I’ve been thinking a bit about the future of the blog, the future of my blogging.

One thing that might be noticed is that I don’t have a hit counter on the blog. For whatever reason, I’ve just never gotten around to it. I assume that traffic is high, but I don’t know what it may be.

Perhaps I’ll change that one of these days.

I’m quite certain it’s been noticed that this blog is a bit outside the norm for a femdom blog, even a sex blog. It is outside the norm in that the subjects covered are not limited to femdom, or even to sexuality. I write here about whatever might be interesting me at the time.

I assume that this broader subject matter is appreciated by my readers. That only femdom, all the time would become quite dull with time. I don’t know that to be a fact, but I presume it to be so.

One thing that has probably never been noticed is that I am capable of writing much more than is ever posted here. Indeed I write a great deal more than I post, and the blog could be much larger, much more active if I were to post as frequently as I am able.

I wonder if my writing here has value to my readers. If that value is high enough that some percentage of readers would be willing to throw it a few bucks now and again. If an expanded blog would be something that people would be willing to support if support was necessary for that expansion.

I would be very curious to read my readers thoughts upon these musings. One can comment anonymously right here on the blog, or I can be emailed at:

Mistress? Mistake?

It seems that I made an error a week or so ago when I posted a personal ad here for a friend. I got his email wrong.

If you wrote him, and your mail bounced back, please note that he is still there, and the ad is still valid. I've corrected the address in the post below.

As for the mistake, I'll have to figure out how to blame it upon the next poor fellow who visits me, and thrash him soundly for it!

Femdom Advertising In Seattle

As you have probably noticed, I’ve removed the tacky commercial advertisements from the blog. Not because I don’t enjoy the sites they advertised, simply because I’ve decided that there is no one I’d rather advertise than me!

October 24, 2008

Copyright

I hold Copyright to this blog, my old blog, and the entirety of milliscent.com, and I reserve all rights to my work.

My posts are not public domain, nor do I give any kind of 'creative commons' license.

Through the years I have become used to having my photographs stolen from time to time, heck one 'dominatrix' in Vancouver B.C. Canada actually used my photos and claimed that they were of her. Imagine her new submissives surprise when they opened the door to see that she had misrepresented herself in such a way. Luckily at my demand she stopped using the photos before I had to have action initiated against her.

I never thought though that folks would actually start posting my stories on their own blogs, so imagine my shock tonight when I visited a blog I'd never seen before, and the very top post on that blog was my story The Masturbatrix.

The fellow did provide me credit for the story, so I imagine that he did not know that it is wrong to use the creative works of another without their permission. I hope that this post serves to let others who might consider doing the same what the rules are.

Please don't take my stories or my other works without asking me first. It is wrong, I work hard on them, on providing them to everyone who reads this blog.

If on the other hand you do the right thing, you ask my permission, the chances are quite good that I will grant it. Just don't steal from me, and that is exactly what copyright infringement is. Theft.

Thank You

As you have noticed, this blog contains advertising banners. This is a change from when it was hosted by blogger where I did not include any advertising.

I've done this because the old location included free hosting. This new location I must pay for each and every month. The banners on the blog will help me to do that.

Thank you for considering the items offered by my advertisers, and a big thank you to those of you who might follow the banners and buy. Your support is truly appreciated.

I think it fair to say that the sites I advertise here are sites that I have personal experience with and enjoy. I will not include advertising for anything that I don't think offers good values.

Web Design and Hosting

The slow server performance issues related to commenting have been taken care of. I believe that you will now find commenting to be extremely quick and easy.

I want to take this opportunity to give a plug to my webmistress. It can be difficult to find web designers and hosts willing to take on bdsm sites, and it is extremely difficult to find great ones. I’ve been with Christine and her husband David for eleven years now and I must say that they are superb at what they do.

If you need a good adult web hosting service, I strongly recommend that you check out what they can offer.

Comment Performance

Thus far all the thoughts about this new blog location are good, except for the performance of the blog comment form. Just a quick note to let everyone know that the problem is being worked on now, and hopefully performance will be improved.

Until that is done, my posting will need to be slowed down as my webmistress doesn’t want me mucking around in the admit area too much as she works on it.

We should be back to regular posting very soon.

A Hearty Seattle Welcome From The Mistress

Welcome to the new home of my blog! http://www.milliscent.com/blog

I hope that you enjoy your time here; that you will subscribe to my feed, and bookmark the site.

A New Beginning

This is my first post at my blogs new home here on Milliscent.com. I’ve been blogging with Blogger for years, and Blogger certainly offers some very good advantages. The software is fun and easy to use, and the free hosting can’t be beat. Unfortunately Blogger’s decisions are rather opaque and I started to become a tad bit nervous as to the future of my blog when I noticed some femdom blogs close down, and others receive warning pages. As a result I started looking at other blogging platforms and decided upon Movable Type hosted here on my own domain and server.

The blog is still under some level of construction, so please excuse the dust in the corners.

The software isn’t as user friendly as Blogger, so please excuse any roughness around the edges as I get it all figured out.

All that said, I am pleased with this new home for my blog. I hope that all my loyal readers follow me here as I look forward to reading all of your comments upon my posts!

I will continue to make some mirrored posts to the old blog for a little while, and I will move some of my favorite posts from the archives to this new location.

I will keep the archives at Blogspot in the old location for as long as they will have me.
