Your Dominatrix And Her Nook
I've had my Barnes & Noble Nook e-reader for over six months now so I thought it might be helpful to update everyone on how its been for me over the long term.
I have to say that my excitement for the device has not waned. It is impressive.
Books are very easy to purchase from B&N, or anywhere else, easy to read in any light, and with the ability to change font size, easy to read even if one's eyes aren't perfect.
It is very telling to me that I haven't read a paper book since I purchased the Nook, and in fact, I'm very quickly disposing of my library of paper books and replacing that library with e-books.
B&N has come out with a color Nook, but I don't think that product is a particularly good one. Without an e-ink screen it lacks the advantages of an e-reader, and as an e-reader lacks the advantages of a full powered tablet like the I-Pad.
Over the months I've purchased a few accessories, specifically cases or bags. The ones that have proven practical are the kind that open like a book. There is a very large selection of such cases; recently I got beautiful leather one that feels great in the hand while reading.
I would certainly purchase another Nook and have absolutely no regrets over my decision to switch from paper to electronic books.

I'm glad you're enjoying your Nook, Milliscent.
I like the idea of the leather fold out case. I've been toying with getting an e-reader of some sort, but I'm a book junkie. I'm reluctant to give up my paper bound books, and one of the reasons is the feel and functionality concerns.
I know they are always improving the e-readers so it is inevitable that I will probably get one. They are probably very handy for traveling so you don't have to pack several books, especially bulky ones.
However, I don't think I will ever truly let go of paper books - or throw out the already read ones that litter my house.

es,
I held your view almost exactly. Before I bought my nook. I am shocked by the the change in myself caused by the little reader.
That said, I should point out that I'm not throwing away my paper books, just getting rid of them. The finest one's (first editions, signed editions, &c.) have gone to a special friend, others are being given away, and the ones that aren't wanted by anyone else are finding new homes via the local used bookstore. I could never bring myself to actually throwing away books, but I need the space and I love my nook so much I can't see myself reading on paper again.
