A Change
I think we can all agree that things are not going in our country as they should. President Obama has clearly been a disappointment to people from all points on the political spectrum, as has the Democratic Congress. Left and Right, people know that all is not as it should be.
Massachusetts sent the President and Congress a large warning last week, hopefully he, like President Clinton before him, will do the correct thing and heed it.
State oriented extremism always kills majorities in our country. It did in the Republicans when they were pushing a religious based agenda and it is killing the Democratic majority while they are pushing a socialist based agenda.
It is odd that the leaders of both parties never seem to quite figure out that the American people want and expect limited government. Limited socially and limited economically.
Perhaps someday they will learn.
Comments
I don't think the Democrats are pushing a socialist agenda -- I think they are just providing benefits to their contributors, just as the Republicans did when they controlled both the White House and the Congress.
In recent years, concerns about the country seem to have been totally lost!

Hi Ms. Milliscent,
I basically agree but I think you have reduced things too much. There are serious problems in America that are not simply limited to government but also the people, too. The radical extremes on both political polls may contribute but corporate greed and the sense of entitlement that exists among that ilk as well as a crying need to instill values in the society at large, the growing lack of opportunity for the underclass, etc. So much has gone awry. It's hard to recognize this place anymore as the hope of the world.
We've been lied to at least since the JFK assassination. The lies keep coming and the general quality of life keeps deteriorating. A few of us find islands of happiness but not enough of us.
Best,
scott

cuhboy,
I fear that our elected officials actually caring about the country ended some time ago. Now it is all about pushing their personal agenda. Weird religious nonsense for the Republicans, weird economic theories for the Democrats.
Hopefully we get a new crop soon.

scott,
You are certainly correct, we the people are guilty.
From the scumbag banker who takes corporate welfare to the lazy woman faking for disability, we are becoming a society looking for a handout.
We could of course vote the bums out of office, and keep right on doing it until we got a good crop.
We could also all stop begging for our own little particular government handout.
Maybe someday.

Dear Milliscent
I have a solution at least for me. I think we all can bring on change, at least I am going to feel very good about it.
I will not vote for any incumbent regardless of Party.
I will vote NO an any bill for money or taxes.
And I will not vote for an incumbent no matter how good they are if he or she has been in office for more then one term. Other then that I'm just plain pissed.

Dear Mistress Milliscent:
Both times you mentioned getting a "new crop", my mind had visions of you disciplining the politicians! Guess my mind is on something else other than politics these days!
However, we do need to vote. I just hope the result isn't another "Meet the new boss. Same as the old boss."

How about this notion. Congress: Two three year terms...Senate: Two four year terms: Like the umpire said to the batter: STRIKE THREE: YOU'RE GONE!"

short tube,
I think that your plan is a good one.
It looks like your no vote on new taxes was overruled by the majority in Oregon though.
I guess that there will be a few more businesses moving on up to Washington to escape the draconian taxes and regulations imposed by Oregon.

cuhboy,
Indeed. We all need to vote.
We will get a new boss different from the old box only when we demand difference. Thus far, we as voters are mighty complacent it seems.

bdenied,
I guess that I've never been a fan of term limits.
It seems that as a free American I should have the fundamental right to vote for whomever I desire and that my right to do so should be absolute.
I also wonder if it will make any difference. As long as we voters demand freebees from government, the political types will always be happy to pander to us.

In sight of what has been said about congress, and politics,i feel that like so many others have said WE need crop change, new responsible politicians to run and organize our country, and not put our libertys at stake buy trying to force the american people on goverment healthcare and per say shut the door to our faces.so many of us americans, need assistance, and the goverment has closed its doors on our faces,if you are not rich, the banking institutes wont even look or talk to you, american liberties are at extreme stake here in america, the people that dont have anything get shut out and not offered help, boost up if you will, but politicians want our vote so they can keep putting there hands deeper, and deeper into the cookie jar,and it has got to stop.american people need to wake up and stand up,and do whats right!!!
