So Wrong, Yet So Fun
While reading The Edge of Vanilla today, I ran across the post:
Take it, Bitch
The post shows an image of a t-shirt, apparently made by boosters of a High School football team down in Texas, where they take their football very seriously.
The team in question must be the Mustangs or the Colts for their mascot is a horse, and quite obviously not a gelded horse. Their bitter rivals are shown to be the Spartans.
The t-shirt depicts two horses and a Spartan cheerleader. She is on her hands and knees, pleasuring horse number one with her mouth as horse number two takes her from behind.
This is remember, High School football. The t-shirt is without a doubt over the top and very wrong given that context.
In another context, if it were not associated with High School sports, one would have to admit that the image is powerful and could be a strong fantasy driver for many.
While clearly inappropriate for the young people it was created for, adults could certainly appreciate and enjoy the image. I imagine that many readers of this blog, after visiting "Take it, Bitch" will dream of being on their knees, dream of being the 'cheerleader' in the image.
As each of us moves through life we run across images and phrases that become erotic triggers for us, things that we never loose the memory of, things upon which our fantasies are built. This image, with it's wide dissemination will I imagine become such a fantasy driver for some people who come across it. These fantasy triggers are always interesting to me as is contemplation of our larger cultural influences that lead to their creation.
So Wrong, for High School kids.
So Fun, for adults kinky dreams.
Context and intention are always key.

I think that many -- perhaps most -- kinksters enjoy acts that are taboo, simply for the thrill of doing something counter to the grain of society. But the idea of sexual subjugation, e.g., that penetration is dominance, isn't exactly a taboo notion. Indeed, much of the language of vanilla dating is full of terms that suggest romance is very much a hunter/prey activity.
That's why I have mixed emotions on this situation. On one hand, I'm all for consenting adults expressing their sexuality in ways that don't impact others. OTOH, I feel a bit sad that we live in a culture in which such attitudes are so common in "real" life.

Tom,
I guess I don't know that feelings of penetration equaling dominance are culturally driven.
I can see where such feelings might exist due to cultural influences, but I can also see where they might arise due to the act itself.
A bullet penetrates, a sword penetrates, a difficult question penetrates. Could not the feelings arise simply from the act of penetration?

I seem to have run across that on one of the blogs I peruse. I did not have a reaction, perhaps only because I dismissed it as trash.
I don't blame anyone for fantasies, for they are necessary for our being. Still, in my very strict values, I hope that the female depicted did the act because she wanted it, and not because she was forced against her will.
Even if we substitute male humans for the horses my feelings are the same.
But, somehow, horses in this context are too much for me.

Susan's pet,
I viewed the t-shirt as symbolism not a depiction of bestiality, so did not have a negative reaction on that score.
My own negative reaction was due to it's intended audience of High School aged children.
In my view consensuality can't be judged from the symbolism, but I agree with you that if it was intended to depict rape that can not be considered positively.
If however it was intending to depict a consensual act, then I know plenty of women who would enjoy acting out that very fantasy.
Context does seem to be everything.
