Seattle’s Electronic TEA Party

Mr. President, Madam Senators, Mr. Congressman,

This is for you.

We’ve been Taxed Enough Already!

Comments

Happy Easter Ms M and enjoy a cup of tea with me this tax season....then lets toss the whole lot of it into the harbor....

bdenied,

Yes indeed, it shall be a great protest tomorrow! I hope we have large numbers anyway.

Thank you for the kind Holiday wishes, I hope that you had a wonderful Easter as well.

M

Mistress Milliscent, here is a link to a story on the successful tea parties

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090416/ap_on_re_us/tax_day_protests

Thanks we did indeed enjoy Easter, and we had a good protest here...seemed to be about 5-10k people at our rally....hell i have not protested anything since a 7th grade Algebra test went bad.....there is a movement here that is much deeper than CNN or MSNBC will ever admit....

Hi Ms. Milliscent and bd,

You can't take such a stand without inciting your lefty friend and you know that.

Em and I, by the way, got a much appreciated hefty tax return.

As long as you go throwing all the tea into the harbor, might as well go all the politicians, corporate fire-breathers and all. Let them eat cum.

Something tells me, though, that the rich will in time continue to get richer at the expense of those they trod upon.

Modest perverts of the world unite!

All the best,

scott

bitch,

Thank you for the link. I was pleased to see that the protests in our area were quite well attended.

M

bdenied,

It is I think a wonderful thing that people are protesting the current nonsensical policies of the federal government.

Surely corporate welfare is just as horribly immoral as regular welfare. We must stop trying to save people and companies from themselves, allow people and companies to suffer the consequences of their own poor decisions.

M

scott,

Alas, as you claim to be a lefty, I must recommend that you send your tax refund back.

A good lefty doesn't want to pay too little into the federal government, they need loads o'cash to waste!

;-)

M

Mi Ms. Milliscent,

I have always paid my fair share. I got back only what was mine.

I am in agreement that we should let corporate offenders fall. I am not in favor of the bailouts but I am also not in favor of trashing the current President as if he's responsible for the deplorable condition everything is in.

Unlike the Republican buffoon that just left office, our current Chief Exec is just trying to bring a little order to the rampant greed and arrogance that permeates corporate America as well as the Federal Government.

This Tea Party showboat strikes me as a transparent and disingenuous tactic by the political opposition to derail President Obama's administration before it's even had a chance to get off the ground so that they can slap a coat of paint over their own mistakes and run the truly frightening and incompetent Sarah Palin in 2012.

I basically have given up on this country and hope when it sinks in the bog it has chosen to float on that I am living somewhere else.

I'm sure on your farm things are great and even if you have to pay more in taxes than you feel is fair, your life will continue to go well. But I've met more than a few baby boomers nearing retirement after a lifetime of work whose savings and retirement dreams are quickly evaporating.

Oddly, Em and I, for the moment don't seem to be doing bad. We're both working, we have realizable goals that we're progressing towards, and we aren't carrying any debt.

On the other hand, Em's older brother was laid off without warning from his job of twenty years a few days before Christmas. He wasn't over-extended. He and his wife were leading an average life. Now they are on the verge of losing everything they've worked towards with no easy alternatives or job prospects.

Yeah, I think Obama should be doing something more for the common man. But I don't think there's a better game in town right now and I truly want him to have a chance.

I hate what sore losers and dirty fighters the Republicans are. I found a lot of good sense in what Meghan McCain said at her speech to the Log Cabin Republicans. I find her a person worth watching.

Best,

scott

scott,

I did not intend to imply that you didn’t pay what was owed. Rather that folks who believe taxes should be increased could certainly put their convictions to the test and send in a bit extra.

I do agree with you 100%, the current financial difficulties were not caused by Mr. Obama. They were caused by a lunatic overreaction by Mr. Bush and a lap dog Congress. Mr. Obama however, by continuing the bailouts and lending uncertainty to the markets is not helping matters.

It is I think too early to give up hope on the United States. Perhaps soon a point of no return will be reached, but we are not there yet in my view. If we do slide into economic and social tyranny the slide will be long and gradual I imagine. We will have the opportunity to enjoy the fruits of corrupt empire before we die and the eventual fall comes.

It is of course sad when anyone’s financial world collapses around them. That said, there are very long standing rules for investing, for retirement planning, and for home buying. Individuals who unwisely chose to ignore those rules are being punished horribly by the economy. Those who followed them, not so much. In the end we receive what we earn.

I know from personal experience that a well-diversified portfolio tailored to my age is not at this moment a disaster. It is not great, but it is not the world coming to the end either. I would suggest that those who have seen unbearable losses in the market were not properly diversified over the range of investment choices.

I know from talking with people that many have taken their money completely out of the market. Selling that which was purchased high for low. Such things are quite frankly insane. Now is the time to buy, fully invest in the market while it is low so that it can later be sold high.

Too damn much house. Why on earth were people making 50,000 a year buying 400,000 dollar homes? Obviously such loans could never be paid off. Am I to feel a need to bail-out these homeowners who spent too much, committed too much? I live in a little house. A house that I can afford. Others could have made the same choice.

Cell phones, 200 TV stations via cable, SUV’s, Gucci sunglasses, Cohiba Cigars, Single Malt Scotch. Too damn much spending. Too damn much debt. That is why people are hurting now. Our nation seems to have been on a ‘gimmie’ spending spree while avoiding all personal responsibility since the 1960’s. I am sorry if people are hurting, but I don’t think that those who were responsible with their money should feel a need to bail out those who were not.

I am very pleased to read that things are improving a great deal for you and Em. Like everyone I want to see my friends do well. I do however believe that personal concern, compassion, and indeed charity are reasonable and effective. Governmental wealth redistribution schemes are neither.

M

Hi Ms. Milliscent,

Not much to challenge in your response. As always, you make excellent and thoughtful points. Something for me to chew on the next time Em whips me.

Peace and love,

scott

scott,

And I do hope that your whipping was not far off from your commenting!

One does need a good hard whipping from time to time!

M

It may just be the difference in viewpoint between dominant and submissive!

Subs love the feeling they're giving something to others and by extension, to the world. (Conservatives sometimes refer to liberals as "bleeding hearts" -- suggesting that their politics are too Christlike.)

Dominants are willing to say that the world is simply and beautifully here for them to take what they can. They're willing to live life without feeling responsible for what their actions might mean to others, if they get what they want.

And that's why we love them!

jeff

jeff,

You post an interesting theory, but alas, I must disagree.

I can't see crushing taxation and overwhelming regulation as a form of 'giving.' Giving implies free will, and both taxation and regulation are enforced via force. Not via free will.

If someone wants to give to his or her fellow man, then one is free to do so, a gift. Not a theft.

I do not believe that a conservative defense of capitalism points to a lack of desire to help out the less fortunate among us, rather capitalism is clearly the very best way to meet the greatest needs of the greatest number. Not perfect, but the best system man has ever devised for meeting the needs of all.
