A Seattle Winter Wonderland

Since my last post all I can say is that it’s cold.

Bitterly cold.

We aren’t used to such cold weather here, and I must say that I’d be mighty happy if things would warm up ten degrees or so.

We have a great deal of snow, and the temperature has not risen above freezing for many days now. Luckily the woodstoves keep my house and studio nice and toasty warm, and the Christmas lights are quite beautiful under their blankets of white.

No frozen pipes, so I figure I’m doing quite well.

The roads are the most interesting part of this storm to me. My little road, normally so bad no matter what the weather is in great shape. The snowplow ran constantly throughout the storm, and traveling on my road is easy as pie. The highway is also nice and clear; the state has done a great job with it throughout the past few days. When I get out of the mountains though, that is when the craziness begins. The cities, and the lowlands around Puget Sound are awful! Ice everywhere, roads treacherous to a terrible degree.

How strange to have roads in great shape up here in the mountains while the roads in the cities are so awful. I’m declaring myself lucky indeed.

Emma & scott,

Thank you for your kind holiday wishes. I hope that you both have a wonderful Christmas, and that 2009 is your best year ever!

I heard someone say that this unusually cold weather is caused by the global warming. Actually, I think that President G. Bush is responsible.

Susan's pet,

Last year our state legislature in it's never ending quest for reelection decided to provide easy sop to uninformed voters by passing a meaningless bill addressing the 'crisis' of global warming.

Apparently, all common sense aside, their dumb little bill actually worked! 2008 has proven to be the coldest year in a very long time!

All hail the supreme power of the Washington State Legislature, 150 people so very powerful that they are able to change the climate of the earth!
